Reelections in Beit Shemesh

The regional court in Jerusalem's decision to order a second round of elections in Beit Shemesh continues to arouse stormy repercussions throughout the Israel media. A review of the editorials and columns in the secular press reveals that almost all of the journalists are united in their opinion that aside from the legality of a few forged envelopes, there were other, far more important issues to be dealt with, namely the chareidi community as a whole.

"The Secret of the Pure Chinuch of Our Youngsters Lies in the Caliber of their Educators"

The secret of the effective and good chinuch of our young sheep, tinokos shel beis rabban, lies in the quality of their teachers. "This includes their yiras Shomayim and the way they pray - these are the visible signs that characterize a good educator and his piety." These were the words of HaRav Shteinman in a lengthy address before the rabbonim and heads of the Chinuch Conference which has convened this year for the sixth time, with the attendance of hundreds of Torah educators, mashgichim, cheder principals from all over the country, as he blessed the members of the Chinuch Conference that they succeed and create a Kiddush Hashem.

Special Prayers on Erev Rosh Chodesh

Under the headline, "Assembling in Times of Trouble to Pour Forth Prayer", our gedolei Yisroel: HaRav Aharon Leib Shteinman and HaRav S. Wosner, appealed strongly to all communities everywhere to assemble on Wednesday, Erev Rosh Chodesh Shvat, in the shuls, yeshivos, kollelim and halls of chinuch, for the Yom Kippur Kotton prayers, that we cry out and rouse ourselves to teshuva in response to the terrible decree of the army draft crouching at our doors through the low, base and threatening objective of thinning out the halls of our precious yeshivos.

14th Annual Agudas Yisroel Yerushalayim Yarchei Kallah

For four unforgettable days, some 250 bnei Torah will escape the shackles of cell phones, emails, and day-to-day work and enter the avirah of Toras Eretz Yisroel at this year's Agudas Yisroel of America's Yerushalayim Yarchei Kallah. It will be held at the Ramada Hotel commencing Monday, 19 Shevat (January 20). The Yarchei Kallah will effectively transform the main ballroom at the hotel into a full- fledged Yeshiva Gedolah from early morning until late at night participants will delve into the sugya of Perek Keitzad Mevorchim and the laws of Birchos Hanehenin.

Internal Aliyah

by Dr. E. Shussheim

At a recent conference in Herzliya, Finance Minister Binyamin Netanyahu spoke about the demographic threat to the State of Israel and its future existence as a Jewish state, based on the gap between the birthrate among Israeli Arabs and the birthrate among Israeli Jews. I would like to present what I believe is the only existing solution to this existential problem.

A Man with a Grave Mission

by Yisroel Friedman

Part II

Jews were always deeply concerned about graves, both their own and the graves of their ancestors. This reflects their belief in the continuation of the person after the death of the body: the soul continues and the body also has a role in the future. Many of our ancestors lie buried throughout the world, in every place that Jews have wandered in our long Golus. There is no central agency of the Jewish people to care for the many resting places of Jews throughout the Diaspora, but there are many smaller initiatives to try to help. Here we present the fascinating story of one individual who is involved in fixing and preserving Jewish gravesites throughout the world.
