The Message of HaRav Aharon Leib Shteinman at the Chanukas Habayis of Yeshivas Ateres Shlomo in Modi'in Illit

We are living in a generation where Torah has flourished and increased. On the one hand, this is very encouraging and brings huge simchah but on the other hand, to our dismay, we are faced with elements who wish to legally shunt us aside and not only prevent us from increasing and preserving Torah amongst Jewry but even chas vesholom to lessen Torah. Those in the government don't understand [the importance of Torah] and continually attempt to pass laws against us to constrict Torah scholars. This situation calls for special Heavenly compassion and finding favor in the eyes of those in power lest they create a schism within the population, with one set of laws for one segment and other laws for another, such as never existed before.

Many years ago this may have happened; today they wish to pass evil laws to make things hard for Torah scholars and chas vesholom to prevent them from studying.

We need great mercy from Hashem to find favor in the hearts of all those who seek to constrict our steps. May Hashem help to put into the hearts of all these people that they will do no evil and that we can all proliferate Torah and enhance it. We pray that the merit of this great mitzvah, Torah scholars will increase within our midst and harsh decrees will be averted so that we can continue to pursue our way until that time of the true Geulah, may it come speedily in our days.
