Michtav Kodesh of Maran Rosh Hayeshiva HaRav Aharon Yehuda Leib Shteinman shlita

Bs"d

I come to strengthen bnei Torah since, to our dismay, we are all concerned and in great fear about the lot of young bnei Torah and toilers in Torah, who constitute the future of our people.

Using the Advice of the Ramchal

In his letter, HaRav Shteinman repeated a similar request he made several months ago to use the advice given by the Ramchal when the Jews of Italy faced a dire threat.

Acknowledging the Danger is the Hope for Salvation

The political maze seems to have no way out. It seems that Neyanyahu's only choice is complete capitulation to the demands of Bennet and Lapid, the central one of which is to draft the bnei yeshivos, or else give up his efforts entirely to form a government.

German Court Dismisses Case Against Mohel

The German state prosecutor announced this past Friday that he has decided to close the case against Rabbi Dovid Goldberg, the mohel who was accused this last summer of performing a circumcision which "harms the body of a child" - half a year after the charges were filed.

Medical Halachic Conference Held in Paris for Dozens of Halachic Authorities

The chareidi kehilla in Paris had the privilege last week of hosting HaRav Mordechai Gross, Gavad of Chanichei Hayeshivos in Bnei Brak, as well as HaRav Moshe Schlesinger, head of the Pri Chaim organization and world famous expert devotedly helping childless couples in the areas of medical and halachic consultation on a purely voluntary basis.

As of February 14 (4 Adar) 502 millimeters of rain had fallen in the Jerusalem area during the current season (August 1 to date).

Rabbi Shmuel Yosef Freidenson zt"l

The sad news of the decease of Rabbi Shmuel Yosef Freidenson reached Eretz Yisroel from New York. He was niftar on Shabbos parshas Tetzaveh, 13 Adar. The departed, a Gerrer chossid, age 91 at his death, was one of the most veteran writers of chareidi Jewry, besides having held the office of secretary-general of Agudath Israel for the past sixty years and serving as editor in chief of the Agudah Yiddish newspaper, Dos Yiddishe Vort. His funeral took place on Sunday in Jerusalem, where he was buried on Har Hamenuchos.

The Rov of Yerushalayim HaRav Yosef Chaim Sonnenfeld, zt"l
In honor of his yahrtzeit, 19 Adar, 5692 (1932)

His cherished acquisition - the privilege of living in Eretz Yisroel - was gained by Reb Yosef Chaim with great travail in true fulfillment of the mishna in Ovos: "Eretz Yisroel nikneis beyissurim."

The Choicest of Days

Reasons for the Commandment of Shabbos

"Between Me and the Children of Israel it is an everlasting sign" (Shemos 31:17).

The commandment of Shabbos was included among the Ten Commandments and even preceded the giving of the Torah at Sinai. The Jews were commanded regarding Shabbos at Moroh. The Torah states two reasons for keeping this seventh day: the first appears in the commandment of the Aseres Hadibros in Yisro and the second, in the commandment appearing in Voeschanon, namely: "For [in] six days Hashem made the heavens and the earth, the sea and all they contain, and He rested upon the seventh day. Therefore did Hashem bless the Sabbath day and sanctified it" (Shemos 20:11).

Seeing Ourselves from Outer Space

by Yitzchok Roth

The tragic end of the space shuttle Columbia will not put an end to the American space program. Space exploration has always been the object of man's aspirations, whether out of curiosity or out of a desire to sense that man has the strength to break past any boundary. While this attitude is clearly a throwback to the Tower of Bovel, where mankind aspired to build a tower that would reach "to the heavens" and from there to make war against Hashem, it's interesting (although not too surprising) to note that those few individuals who actually do ascend to the heavens, describe it as being a spiritual experience.
