Rebbetzin Ettel Soloveitchik o"h

Bereaved and mourning, thousands of people accompanied Rebbetzin Ettel Soloveitchik, wife of the late HaRav Yosef Dov Soloveitchik, Rosh Yeshivas Brisk and son of HaRav Yitzchok Zev Soloveitchik, to her final rest last Thursday evening, eve of the 8th of Sivan. She passed away at the ripe old age of ninety-two after a long life of great merit and good deeds, the proud mother of legions of descendants of gedolei Torah and horo'oh.

In the aftermath of the First World War many Jews found themselves displaced, disoriented and far away from home. R' Yitzchok Yaakov, then a boy of twelve, managed to return to Munkacz with his parents, where he did not allow the war and its aftereffects to affect his learning. He sought out his corner in the beis medrash and there he sat, studying, learning, and reviewing, until he distinguished himself even among the great talmidei chachomim of Munkacz.
