Chinuch Conference to Focus on Banned Weeklies

By Yechiel Sever

The central session of the Fourth Chinuch Conference, which will bring together yeshiva mashgichim, principals and other educators at Nir Etzion Hotel next week, will address the impact of "chareidi" publications (known in Hebrew as "weeklies") that have a destructive effect on children, teens and even adult readers.

The session will examine the dangers of the segment of the chareidi press that distorts daas Torah, focusing on the prohibition against Internet use that does not conform to the guidelines set by gedolei Yisroel shlita as well as the difficulties educators encounter in dealing with youths who have been exposed to publications that have been banned by gedolei Yisroel and which impart foreign worldviews, wreaking spiritual destruction, both directly and indirectly.

Another central session at the conference will be the Roshei Yeshivos Panel, which will draw hundreds of seventh- and eighth-grade teachers from all parts of Eretz Yisroel. Roshei yeshivos, mashgichim and ramim will discuss the link between talmudei Torah and yeshivas, how the transition affects the talmid and the communication needed between the two types of institutions.
