Problems with No End in Sight

Bus 402 from Bnei Brak to Jerusalem Launched

by Betzalel Kahn

Nowadays (5772) we take the mehadrin buses for granted in Israel. The 402 line between Jerusalem and Bnei Brak is one of the most heavily traveled (and profitable) in the country. But, like many other things, the chareidi community only got it after a struggle. This article documents part of this struggle that ended a decade ago. It shows how the chareidi community is profoundly and subtly the subject of discrimination. Even when it makes excellent business sense, the powers that be are reluctant to give the chareidi community what it wants.

At the end of a prolonged battle, in the course of which the Kav Mehadrin bus line was launched, Egged and Dan began operating bus route number 402 between Jerusalem and Bnei Brak. Now that the Transportation Ministry has granted it the necessary permits, the line began running this Sunday, 11 Cheshvan (October 28).

Q. How should an avreich who is successful in his studies and also has a leaning towards mussar and hashkofo prepare himself for his task of disseminating Torah. Should he invest time in one or both?
