Rabbinical Committee for Transportation Matters

Under the Guidance of Gedolei Yisroel shlita

BS"D, 6 Teves 5772

Urgent Notice

In light of the unprecedented incitement campaign against Mehadrin lines, we would like to clarify the following:

A. The Mehadrin arrangement is voluntary and carried out by both men and women who choose to travel on public transportation with gender segregation, as required by halacha.

B. As stated previously and reiterated here, we strongly condemn coercion and violence of any kind; under no circumstances should men or women be forced to move to another seat on the bus. "Derocheho darkei noam, and it is unconscionable to cause a desecration of the Name of Heaven, as gedolei Yisroel have announced publicly on several occasions.

C. Since the trial year set by the High Court to determine whether the arrangement in which both sets of doors are opened to allow passengers to board leads to coercion and violence is coming to an end, and since according to checks conducted by the Ministry of Transportation there were almost no incidents of coercion, an incitement campaign, orchestrated and funded by various foundations and organizations is being waged in order to end the Mehadrin lines through violent and aggressive provocations. As such, we must ignore them entirely.
