Planning the Central Siyum HaShas in Jerusalem

By Ariel and Yechiel Sever

In full swing are the intensive preparations for the upcoming grand event of the Siyum HaShas in Eretz Yisroel scheduled to take place in Jerusalem on Tuesday, the 12th of Av and headed by maranan verabbonon, the foremost leaders of Torah and Chassidus.

A special delegation from the members of the planning committee began this Monday, the 19th of Tammuz, a round of visits to the homes of the leading figures of Torah and Chassidus, both to receive their blessings and to invite them to honor the celebrated occasion with their presence, in order to enhance the glory of Torah.

In a visit that took place on Monday in the home of HaRav Aharon Leib Shteinman, the latter said, "Our strength is only through our mouths, and it is therefore necessary to increase study, scholars and shiurim, for this protects and saves us, and we must increase our prayers to the Creator. Only by amplifying our shiurim and our Torah scholars can we overcome the harsh decrees against them."

The Rosh Yeshiva praised the fact that there are ongoing shiurim in every city and settlement. A major event [like the Siyum] is a great Kiddush Hashem which will add many more participants. "Whoever is able to gather Jews together and establish shiurim is enriched with the merit of the public."

Other gedolim visited included HaRav Nissim Karelitz, HaRav Chaim Kanievsky, HaRav Gershon Eidelstein, HaRav Meir Tzvi Bergman, the Belzer Rebbe, the Sadigura Rebbe and others.

This major event for the honor of Torah is being sponsored by the central planning committee representing the following organizations: Toda'a, Degel Yerushalayim, the Jerusalem municipality, a donation in memory of R' Yaakov Meir Chaim ben Efraim Eliezer HaKohen Schottenstein and Dirshu, an organization working to expand the circle of Torah students, mainly through a program of tests on the Daf Hayomi and the impressive Torah project "Heichalei Torah Oz v'Hadar."
