Education Ministry Introduces Stiff New Rules — Only for Chareidi Sector

Heads and directors of yeshivas and other chareidi educational institutions across the country have reacted sharply to a new set of guidelines by the Education Ministry's Department of Torah Institutions, requiring them to adhere to strict oversight requirements in order to receive the meager funding the government provides. Although the new regulations are said to be in response to recent revelations of fraud, other sectors are also plagued by fraud and are not subject to such tough regulations.

11,000 Apartments in Beit Shemesh Dalet Enter Detailed Planning Stage

With the completion of the frame plans, 11,000 apartment units slated for construction in Ramat Beit Shemesh Dalet have now entered the detailed planning stage, after tens of millions of shekels were allocated for detailed master plans for the neighborhood with the assistance of government ministries and the Beit Shemesh Municipality's Engineering Department, headed by Rabbi Moshe Montag.

Hospitals to Install Shabbos Doors

The Health Ministry issued an official announcement to hospital directors that it has earmarked special resources to install high-tech systems designed to solve the Shabbos problem of electronic doors currently in use at almost every hospital in the country. These doors, which open and close with the aid of a light sensor, have for years been a real obstacle for Shabbos observers, many of whom are unaware of the issue and commit transgressions unintentionally.

New Revelations Documented by Ginzach Kiddush Hashem

Hundreds of stirring, unknown and undocumented stories were shared with Ginzach Kiddush Hashem recently during a massive interviewing campaign of Holocaust survivors, covering their experiences during and before the war. The interviews are being conducted both in Israel and abroad. Ginzach teams traveled abroad to train interviewers and a number of interviews have already revealed previously untold Jewish valor.

A large crowd from the Torah community turned out for the levaya of HaRav Chaim Zelig Cantor zt"l on Monday, 19 Shvat. HaRav Cantor, the rosh kollel of Beis Medrash Romema, passed away after a long illness.
