One-Third of Ashdod Students in Chareidi Schools

By Y. Green

The number of students in Ashdod's chareidi schools is up this year, Mayor Dr. Yechiel Lasri said at a press conference, where he presented the work plan for the new year. The number of chareidi students in the city increases from year to year and is now approaching the number of students in the city's government and government-religious schools.

According to the figures he presented, this year chareidi students account for more than one-third of all Ashdod pupils.

A total of 55,000 students are enrolled for the 5772 school year, of which 33,000 study at government and government-religious schools, while 19,000 study in the city's chareidi schools. Ashdod's 196 preschools and kindergartens accommodate 5,447 children, while in the chareidi sector pre-primary schools have 2,900 children, meaning that the chareidi proportion of those years is more than half.
