HaRav Boruch Yitzchok Gutfarb zt"l

by Yechiel Sever

Led by maranan verabbonon thousands were on hand to lay to rest HaRav Boruch Yitzchok Gutfarb zt"l, a loyal disciple of gedolei Yisroel past and present, who passed away on Erev Shabbos Parshas Korach following a difficult illness. He was close to Maran HaRav Yosef Sholom Eliashiv and a participant in his daily shiur, as well as an active proponent of various matters of kedushoh, pursuing tzedokoh and chessed while devoting his life to Torah, yeshivas and outreach work.

Among the founders of Yeshivas Aish HaTorah, he helped support it for decades, founded and supported Beis Medrash Ahavas Torah, started the first night kollel and bein hazmanim yeshiva and was constantly seeing to the needs of kollel men, yeshiva students, widows, orphans and needy families.

He worked hard to promote the then fledgling teshuvoh world, founding Yeshivas Aish HaTorah with HaRav Noach Weinberg zt"l, an endeavor that required overcoming a variety of hurdles in both gashmiyus and ruchniyus. He recruited some of the first students and teachers, and was like a father to young men who arrived at the yeshiva all alone and now owe him a tremendous debt for sparing their lives spiritually.

At the levaya, which set out from Beis Medrash Ahavas Torah, hespeidim were delivered by HaRav Shmuel Auerbach, HaRav Nosson Tzvi Finkel, HaRav Chaim Uri Freund, one of the roshei yeshiva of Aish HaTorah and a member of the Eida Chareidis of Jerusalem, HaRav Mordechai Krashinsky, one of the rabbonim of Ahavas Torah, HaRav Daniel Wolfson, rosh yeshiva of Yeshivas Nesivos Hachochmoh, and the deceased's son-in-law, HaRav Yitzchok Meir Gura.

HaRav Boruch Yitzchok Gutfarb zt"l is survived by his devoted wife, sons and sons-in-law, who all teach Torah and yir'oh, grandchildren and great-grandchildren following in his path of Torah and mitzvas.
