Bernstein Family z'l Buried

by Yated Ne'eman Staff

Thousands of shattered mourners, led by rabbonim, gedolei Torah and admorim, took part in the heart-rending funeral for the Bernstein family z"l of Beitar Illit, whose lives were cut short in a nightmarish road accident on Thursday, before Shabbos Parshas Re'eih. The seven family members killed in the crash were R' Aryeh Leib Bernstein, 43, and his wife Soroh Rivkoh, 41; their four children, Malia Miriam Gottstein, 21, Yochonon, 16, Chonoh Heniyoh, 15, Mordechai Aharon, 9; and Mrs. Gottstein's two-year-old son, Mordechai Aharon.

The large funeral procession, with over 10,000 participants, set out from Shamgar funeral parlor in Jerusalem, making its way mournfully via Rechov Bar Ilan and Shmuel Hanovi to the narrow passageways of the Mea Shearim and Beit Yisrael neighborhoods, eventually reaching the Karlin-Stolin beis medrash the family belonged to on Rechov Avinoam Yellin.

According to the initial investigation, the driver of the minibus, a neighbor from Beitar Illit, ran a red light, broke through the barrier and, according to his account, got stuck on the tracks shortly before the train rammed into the vehicle. Skid marks were found on the road near the tracks.
