As expected the US has been inundated with a surge of antisemitism following the enormous securities fraud perpetrated by former NASDAQ chairman Bernard Madoff. Both the press and the electronic media, especially Internet blogs, stress Madoff's Jewish identity.


Murder Victim in Yemen Buried After Two Weeks

Moshe Yaish Nahari Hy'd, who was murdered by a Muslim in the marketplace near his home, was buried in the town of Riydah last week, following a delay of nearly two weeks. He was buried alongside his grandfather's grave, not far from a grave of a Jew murdered 16 years ago. Two hundred local Jews took place in the levaya, which was held under heavy police guard.

Money Market Funds in Israel Entail Halachic Questions

Money market funds, that only were introduced at the beginning of 2008, have become a solid investment preferred by many observant investors. Until now it was assumed typical money market funds invest only in government bonds and unlinked short-term bonds. Other mutual funds are known hold corporate bonds that could lead the investor to transgress Torah prohibitions against accepting interest.


Spanish Government Freezes Excavation Work at Ancient Jewish Cemetery

The government of Spain has ordered local officials to immediately stop desecrating a Jewish cemetery in Toledo. Following a series of meetings with representatives from the Conference of European Rabbis (CER), the Committee for the Preservation of Jewish Cemeteries in Europe (CPJCE), the Federation of Jewish Communities in Spain and the Conference of Spanish Rabbis, officials from the Spanish Foreign Ministry ordered the Castile-La Mancha Local Council, which has jurisdiction over Toledo, to halt work pending an inquiry and a halachic-engineering-legal solution to the complex problem.
