Eternal Jewish Family Conference Held In Washington

Two hundred and sixty rabbonim from Eretz Yisroel and North America gathered recently in Washington, DC to attend the Eternal Jewish Family conference, whose object was to bolster awareness of the potentially tragic consequences of failing to meet the exacting halachic requirements for accepting converts, for both the individuals involved and for our nation as a whole.

Algeria Still Does Not Allow Entry of Jews Expelled With the French

Algerian Prime Minister Abdelaziz Belkhadem denounced the inclusion of singer Enrico Macias in the French President's entourage during the official visit to Algeria scheduled to take place in December. "I was unable to determine the composition of President Sarkozy's entourage, but Macias the Jew is still unwanted in Algeria," Belkhadem said last week. Journalists closely aligned with Islam and conservative figures in the ruling party, FLN, called him a Zionist, though he is popular among the masses in Algeria.

Germany Does Not Intend to Expand Reparations Agreement

German Finance Minister Peer Steinbrueck said during a recent visit to Jerusalem that his country does not intend to expand the reparations agreement signed with Israel in 1952. However, he did promise that his government would try to assist needy Holocaust survivors living in Israel through the Claims Committee, the worldwide organization that works to ensure survivors receive reparations.


Siyum for Dozens of High School Students Drawn to Acheinu During School Strike

Dozens of high school students who suddenly found themselves with no classes to attend due to the ongoing school strike took part in their first siyum at the Acheinu yeshiva in Har Nof for the newly observant. For many of the participants the exciting event to celebrate the completion of "Eilu Metzios" (the second chapter of Bovo Metzia) also marked the first time they had ever completed a chapter of the gemora.

Employment Center for Disabled Under Construction in Bnei Brak

Bnei Brak Mayor Rabbi Yissochor Frankental has approved and is backing an NIS-6 million ($1.5 million) construction project for a building to house a rehabilitative employment center designed to facilitate assisted employment for the disabled. Construction is being carried with the help of the Shalem Foundation, the National Insurance Foundation and Mifal Hapayis.
