Erev Rosh Chodesh Adar I Was a Yom Tefilloh

By Yechiel Sever

Following calls issued by gedolei Yisroel shlita — members of Moetzes Gedolei HaTorah of Degel HaTorah and Agudas Yisroel as well as Moetzes Gedolei HaTorah of America, including Maran HaRav Eliashiv shlita — to unite in tefilloh and tachnunim in light of the difficult state of affairs in Eretz Hakodesh, kehillos around the world held special tefillos, including the prayers of Yom Kippur Koton, on Tuesday, Erev Rosh Chodesh Adar Rishon, laying forth supplications and asking Borei Olom to take pity on His people and to deliver them.

In their notices gedolei Yisroel said they are filled with dread over the situation in Eretz Hakodesh, where nobody knows what the next day holds in store as sorrows mount both externally and internally. Various perils threaten both body and soul, whether they physically endanger entire communities or whether they endanger pure Torah-based education and kodshei Yisroel.

"In order to arouse rachamim we must strengthen ourselves in Torah, tefilloh and maasim tovim," wrote gedolei Yisroel, "and HaKodosh Boruch Hu will hear our outcry and shine His Face upon us, and then we will be delivered for ever and ever."
