Vaadas Harabbonim Lemaan Kedushas HaShabbos Says Public Has Ability to Increase Kovod Shomayim and Kovod HaShabbos

By Betzalel Kahn

As bein hazmanim begins Vaadas HaRabbonim Lemaan Kedushas HaShabbos is reminding the general public to ensure that sites are shomer Shabbos before setting out to visit them in order to increase kovod Shomayim and not to cause chilul Hashem by patronizing places that desecrate Shabbos.

The Shabbos Information Center run by Vaadas HaRabbonim works year-round to verify whether sites that advertise as shomer Shabbos, or in response to telephone inquiries claim to keep Shabbos, are not merely trying to encourage shomrei Shabbos to patronize their sites.

The Information Center cites the Latrun Wagon Park, which recently advertised it closes on Shabbos and is under Vaadas HaRabbonim supervision, when in fact the park was open on Shabbos during the winter months and on Shavuos, and on the Shabbos following Shavuos an event involving large-scale chilul Shabbos was held.

Another example: The tractor ride site at Moshav Nachem near Beit Shemesh also advertised itself as shomer Shabbos and told callers it closes for Shabbos, though for years religious and traditional moshav residents have been asking Vaadas HaRabbonim to warn against chilul Shabbos befarhesiyoh at the moshav and the surrounding area due to the tractor rides. Last year Beit Shemesh rabbonim even signed a notice prohibiting Beit Shemesh residents from patronizing the site.

According to Vaadas HaRabbonim, these are just a few of the many examples of sites that desecrate Shabbos, despite claiming otherwise.

The Information Center is informing the public that places such as the Meimadion, Shefa'im , Beit Chalomotai, Luna Gal at the Kinneret and Keif Tzoba are mechalel Shabbos befarhesiyoh and urging yirei Hashem to avoid patronizing them and other places like them.
