Rabbi Gafni Demands Changes in State Budget

By Betzalel Kahn

MK Rabbi Moshe Gafni met with Finance Minister Avraham Hirchson to discuss demands to change sections of the state budget that discriminate against the chareidi public.

Hirchson, who initiated the meeting, asked to hear about Rabbi Gafni's objections to next year's budget, which contains innumerable sections that discriminate against the chareidi public in areas such as chareidi education, Jewish culture, a lack of budgeting for the Shmittoh year and a long list of other discriminatory sections, in addition to various sections in the areas of health care and welfare that strike a blow to the weaker classes in general.

Following the long meeting between the two, the Finance Minister and MK Gafni agreed to hold a meeting this week between the Finance Minister and all UTJ members to hear their criticisms of the 2007 budget.
