Avreich and Three Yeshiva Students Killed in Jeep Accident in Judean Desert

By S. Bruchi

Stunned and shattered, thousands took part in the levayos for an avreich and three yeshiva students from Yeshivas Meor HaTorah in Telz-Stone who were killed late Monday 22 Av in a jeep accident in Nachal Pares in the Aravah. The victims were Sinai Sharazi and his brother Amir of Netanya, Gilad Dahari of Elyachin, and avreich Avrohom Rosenfeld z"l of Telz-Stone.

Monday morning the four yeshiva students from Meor HaTorah, a yeshiva for high school graduates, set out on a trip in the Judean Desert, along with R' Avrohom Rosenfeld. The group had plans to return to Jerusalem that evening to take part in the wedding of another student at the yeshiva.

When they failed to arrive, friends tried to contact them by cell phone, but could not get an answer. The police were notified and a search got underway. ZAKA volunteers also joined the search. After two hours the searchers agreed to turn off all their motors to see if they could hear anything, and one of the search units heard cries for help coming from the lone survivor of the accident, who had sustained serious injuries.

Two helicopters from the IDF's 669 rescue unit arrived to evacuate him to Soroka Medical Center in Be'er Sheva. When the search-and-rescue workers descended deep in to the wadi, they came upon a horrifying scene. Three of the bochurim and the avreichim were found lifeless after the jeep had tumbled down a steep embankment.
