HaRav Eliashiv: Every Effort Should be Made to Prevent Jews from Going Up to Har Habayis

By Betzalel Kahn

Maran HaRav Eliashiv shlita told the rov of the Kosel Maarovi, HaRav Shmuel Rabinovitz, that every effort should be made to prevent Jews from going up to Har Habayis due to the severe prohibition against going up to the site of the Temple today.

HaRav Eliashiv made these remarks on Isru Chag Shavuos, a day on which he always goes to the remnant of Beis Hamikdosh to daven. Before he left the Western Wall Plaza he asked HaRav Rabinovitz to make every effort to prevent Jews from going up to Har Habayis.

HaRav Eliashiv even expressed his amazement and shock that a group of people who call themselves rabbonim decided to encourage going up to Har Habayis and even paid a visit there themselves, contravening the ruling of gedolei hadoros, and said every means possible should be used to raise awareness regarding this serious prohibition.
