R' Binyomin Zeev Bollack zt"l

By Betzalel Kahn

The roshei yeshivos of Yeshivas Kol Torah and Yeshivas Ponovezh headed the grief-stricken bnei Torah laying to rest Rav Binyomin Zeev Bollack zt"l, a 27-year-old avreich who returned his soul to his Maker on Friday morning, Erev Shabbos Parshas Pinchos, two weeks after sustaining serious injuries in a car accident in Jerusalem.

Born on 5 Nisan 5739, Binyomin Zeev Bollack was the eldest son of HaRav Meir Bollack, who has been giving shiurim in Bnei Brak for years and serves as the manager of Yeshivas Ponovezh, and Mrs. Yehudis Bollack (nee Markowitz) of Petach Tikva.

After studying at Talmud Torah Tashbar in Bnei Brak, he joined Yeshivas Ponovezh Letze'irim and then went on to study at Yeshivas Kol Torah in Jerusalem, where he set an example with his earnest tefillos and hasmodoh. A regular participant in mussar talks and vaadim, his fellow yeshiva members recall his exemplary middos and painstaking adherence to halochoh.

Three months ago he married the daughter of HaRav Chaim Yaakov Levy, one of the roshei kollel of Kollel Ateres Shlomo in Beit Shemesh. After the wedding, R' Binyomin Zeev began learning at the kollel run by Yeshivas Kol Torah and his ambition was to build a home of Torah and yiras Shomayim.

On Friday several weeks ago (4 Tammuz) he sustained a serious head injury when he was hit by a car while crossing the street on his way home from kollel in Bayit Vegan. He lost consciousness immediately and was hospitalized at Hadassah Ein Karem. For two weeks his family members and friends did not leave his bedside and special tefillos for his recovery were held at various Torah centers. After showing slight signs of improvement he suddenly returned his soul to his Maker, to the anguish of his family and acquaintances.

Before the levayoh set out from Yeshivas Kol Torah the rosh yeshiva, HaRav Moshe Yehuda Schlesinger, spoke of the great loss of a ben aliyoh destined for greatness.

HaRav Boruch Dov Povarsky, one of the roshei yeshivos of Yeshivas Ponovezh, said the niftar was a korbon tzibbur and the owners of the korbon are the members of the esteemed Bollack family.

HaRav Moshe Shternbuch, ravad of the Eida Chareidis of Jerusalem, said that according to the Gra, commenting on the verse "Veyeish nispeh belo mishpot" (Mishlei 13:23), sometimes HaKodosh Boruch Hu sets aside the normal guidelines for judgment. Therefore the public must awaken following the many recent tragedies to insure they are not akin to zevach resho'im to'eivoh.

Hespeidim were also delivered by HaRav Boruch Shmuel Deutsch, one of the roshei yeshiva of Yeshivas Kol Torah, HaRav Yitzchok Yeruchom Borodiansky, the menahel ruchani at Yeshivas Kol Torah, and the widow's uncle, HaRav Meir Kott, one of the roshei yeshiva of Yeshivas Kol Torah high school.

At Har Hamenuchos Cemetery he was eulogized by his father-in- law. After the grave was covered over shortly before Shabbos the participants rushed to their respective homes in a state of grief over the void left with the petiroh of an exceptional ben aliyoh in his prime.
