Over 1.5 Million Israelis Live Below the Poverty Line
A total of 1.58 million people live below the poverty line in
Israel, including 25,000 children who joined the ranks of the
poor this year according to a report released by the National
Insurance Institute on Monday this week.
Jerusalem District Court Judge Jonathan Adiel sentenced
lulav importers Avraham Balili and Jean Manshapoor to
three months of community service and a fine of NIS 30,000
($6,500) each after being convicted of taking part in a
lulav cartel seven years ago, a scandal first exposed
in Yated Ne'eman.
Following concerted efforts by Betzedek, the list of local
authorities that are paying tuition for students enrolled at
Chinuch Atzmai schools is growing from day to day.
The Israel Shipping Chamber is calling on the Ashdod Port

see the unusual yeshiva that was established there several
years ago for students who need other activities in addition
to learning Torah.
