Memorial and chizuk talks were given on Shabbos
parshas Lech Lecho at chareidi botei knesses
throughout Eretz Yisroel and other parts of the world as part
of Shabbos Chazon Ish-Avi Ezri declared by gedolei Yisroel
shlita.
Rabbonim, maggidei shiurim and marbitzei Torah
everywhere delivered special Torah and mussar shiurim,
recalling anecdotes and divrei chizuk based on the
lives and teachings of our rabbonim, the luminaries of the
generations, whose respective yahrtzeits fall this
week. Bnei Torah kehillos and Chanichei Hayeshivos
botei medrash that HaRav Shach founded and developed
through mesirus nefesh and nurtured as a father figure
and guide commemorated the fourth anniversary since his
histalkus to Yeshiva Shel Maaloh.
The main memorial gathering was held on motzei Shabbos at the
Talmidei Yeshivas Ponovezh-Tze'irim Beis Medrash on Rechov
HaAdmor MiTzanz in Bnei Brak, which featured a talk by HaRav
Shmuel Auerbach.
"I heard from my father and teacher zt"l, and
ylct"a Rabbeinu Amud Hahoro'oh Maran HaRav Eliashiv
shlita, that for many years there had not been a
trusted shepherd for Beis Yisroel like Rabbeinu
Hagodol Maran zt"l," said HaRav Shmuel Auerbach, the
opening speaker at the gathering.
He then proceeded to exhort heads of educational institutions
not to stray from the clearly stated opinion of gedolei
Yisroel on the issue of Sherut Leumi, including the
Chazon Ish, the Avi Ezri and ylct"a Maran HaRav
Eliashiv shlita. "During these times we must
strengthen ourselves in matters they planted and [follow] the
holy path of Rabbeinu Hagodol by always standing guard not to
dismiss anything."

Special gatherings are also being held this week at Yeshivas
Ponovezh and Yeshivas Grodno, where Maran taught for over 50
years. The Chinuch Atzmai administration sent out circulars
to all talmudei Torah and schools instructing them to
devote tefillos and lessons to the memory of Rabbeinu
Hagodol, zechuso yogen oleinu, who stood faithfully at
the helm of Chinuch Atzmai for four decades.
Marbitzei HaTorah HaSefaradim, headed by roshei yeshivos
shlita, issued stirring calls to roshei yeshivos,
marbitzei Torah and educators to hold chizuk
and memorial gatherings at all yeshivas, educational
institutions and botei medrash for bnei Torah
and yeshiva alumni everywhere in honor and memory of Maran
zt"l, who founded and built the Sephardic Torah world
in Eretz Hakodesh and was largely responsible for the
flourishing of Torah and teshuvoh in Eretz Yisroel and
other parts of the world.
The Zichron Avi Ezri Institute is giving hundreds of three-
volume sets of the memorial sefer Saccosoh Leroshi to

The international organization Uchsavtom produced a special
booklet based on Rabbenu's teachings on iyun study and
on writing chiddushei Torah. The booklet includes a
special article on approaches to learning written by HaRav
Boruch Shmuel Deutsch. Thousands of copies are currently
being distributed at Torah halls around the country.
A memorial gathering was also held in Elad, where speakers
included HaRav Avrohom Yitzchok Hakohen Kook, rosh yeshiva of
Yeshivas Me'or HaTalmud in Rechovot. Major gatherings were
also help in Kfar Saba and Carmiel.
