Newspaper Expose Reveals:
After Betzedek Court Campaign, Government Inspections of Yeshivas Now Much Fairer

Following a nisi order issued by High Court President Judge Aharon Barak in a petition filed by the Betzedek organization, the Finance and Education Ministries were forced to make a significant number of changes in their inspections at yeshivas, making them fairer and moderating the sanctions imposed if irregularities are found. The discrimination against Torah institutions has also been remedied.

IDF to Launch Major Offensive in Shomron and Gaza

Israel's security cabinet decided on Monday night to launch "a major operation in Judea, Samaria and Gaza" against the Islamic Jihad terror organization. The Palestinian Authority will also be punished by the cancellation of the VIP status granted leading officials which enables them to travel on roads generally closed to Palestinians.

MK Gafni Asks Mazuz Why Funding Not Transferred to Chareidi Educational Institutions

MK Rabbi Moshe Gafni sent a letter to Attorney General Mani Mazuz asking why other funding pledged in the coalition agreement — NIS 600 million for Labor and NIS 700 million for Shinui — was transferred long ago whereas the NIS 150 million United Torah Jewry was promised for chareidi educational institutions is still being withheld.

Burial Cave Discovered Near Kiryat Gat

A burial cave was discovered along the southern section of the Trans-Israel Highway near Sdeh Moshe in the area of Kiryat Gat. Whether the graves are Jewish graves has not yet been ascertained. In the meantime Transportation Minister Meir Shetreet has ordered his Director General not to unearth the graves until a solution is found.

Tourism Minister Withdraws Initiative to Build Casinos

Tourism Minister Avraham Hirshson told the Knesset Finance Committee that the government decided to postpone tabling a bill to open casinos in Israel.

Country Club in Netanya to Close on Shabbos

The Netanya Country Club will serve the local chareidi public and will not operate on Shabbos. The new policies follow the work of Degel HaTorah Councilman Rabbi Moshe Lachover, who is in charge of the Association for Informal Education. Rabbi Lachover prevented another country club from operating on Shabbos and worked to make accommodations for the chareidi public at the country club now scheduled to open.

Amendment to Require Products to be Labeled Milchig, Fleishig or Pareve

The Knesset Finance Committee gave approval to table for second and third readings an amendment to the Kashrus Fraud Law according to which manufacturers, importers and retailers would be required to label every product milchig, fleishig or pareve.

Guests of honor included HaRav Leib Heiman, rov of Beis Knesses HaGra in Bayit Vegan and a talmid muvhok of HaRav Kotler, as well as HaRav Moshe Carlebach and HaRav Osher Winternitz, talmidim of HaRav Kotler who now serve as rabbonim at the yeshiva.
