New Law to Limit Volume at Simchas

by Eliezer Rauchberger

The Knesset plenum passed in second and third readings on Monday an amendment to the Business Licensing Law that will require event halls and event grounds to install volume control devices to limit noise levels.

MK Aryeh Eldad (HaIchud HaLeumi), who proposed the law, said at event halls today music is played at extremely high volume that can expose guests to serious hearing damage. This applies to youths in particular, who are harmed by high volume and often leave with ringing sounds in their ears.

The law is intended to protect people's hearing and to introduce norms for music played at event halls. It also applies to other business institutions not frequented by chareidim.
