Garden of Children

I passed a beautiful garden today
Adorned with striking colors and shapes
With each plant and flower
So carefully placed.
Then I came home to
My garden of children.
The light-colored flower with green specks
Is one that thrives in sunshine.
Like ivy, the younger one grows
And dances his dance
To heights of golden amber.
The middle flower
Catches sparks of stardust
While flying on a breeze.
The tallest is first in my graden,
Sturdy, and full of grace.
The youngest is soft and new
Like the whisper of baby's breath.
And then there's my rose,
The only one of her kind.
And I, too, attend to their needs,
So carefully
Sometimes giving a bright smile — for light
Soft words — for growth
Or showers of prayerful tears.
So that my garden flowers
May blossom and grow
Revealing their own colors
Defining their own shapes
Creating their own
Bouquet of forever.
