Chief Rabbinate Council Condemns Dismissal of Jerusalem Rabbinate's Rav Posek

By Betzalel Kahn

At a meeting this week, the Chief Rabbinate Council denounced the dismissal of HaRav Binyomin Adler, the rov posek of the Jerusalem Rabbinate's kashrus department.

The Council said religious council heads should not be allowed to fire rabbonim from kashrus departments without receiving approval from an authorized rabbinical figure.

Speaking at the meeting, Chief Rabbi Yonah Metzger said he raised the matter for urgent discussion after consulting with gedolei Yisroel. The members of the Chief Rabbinate Council, some of whom serve as rabbonim of major cities around the country and thus are very aware of the sensitive nature of this precedent, supported the announcement protesting the dismissal.
