The Day My Grandmother Jumped out the Window
by Esther Schupack

A very true story. In fact, Esther says the dialogue with the Nazi officer has been recalled almost verbatum.

Making A Difference
by Risa Rotman

Who is to deny that in the long run, such a story is not true?

Repaying a Debt
by Chedva Ofek

Part I

Mrs. Rivka Rabinovitch wandered around her house dressed in festive clothes and with a pleased countenance. Today was a special day for her — her retirement. The table set in the living room was decorated with blooming flowers, amid an array of refreshments.

WITH ALL OF ME

by SARA GLASER

Presenting here Part III of Chapter 2 from a short but very worthwhile book by SARA GLASER, known to a wide public as the initiator of the Lifesaver's Guide. While this only deals with her pre-frum days, we have included it for the valuable lessons it teaches in self sufficiency, dedication and pure gumption.

Rett's Syndrome
by A. Ross

Like Down's syndrome, and other medical conditions which are identified with the doctor who first described them in detail, this neurological disorder is named after the man, Andreas Rett, who first depicted it less than 50 years ago. Unlike Down's syndrome, Rett's is not very common, and is usually found only in girls.

KEEP SMILING
by Avrohom Tzvi Schwartz

Keep Smiling — inspirational pieces by Avrohom Tzvi Schwartz (author of Handful of Light and other works)

Preventing Pre-hypertension!
by Dr. Reuven Bruner, Ph.D.

Pre-hypertension — "high-normal" blood pressure, affects an estimated 25 percent of American adults, about the same number as those diagnosed with high blood pressure. Pre- hypertenson is systolic pressure between 120 and 139 mmHg over diastolic pressure of 80 to 89 mmHg (hypertension is 140/90 mmHg or higher).

Your Medical Questions Answered!
by Joseph B. Leibman, MD

I want to speak a little about cancer. While this is not my field, there are some important points. Let's speak about risks.

POET'S CORNER

It's Elul Again
by Marilyn Maizels

It's Elul again, my knees start to quake
(Oh, and what about a honey cake?)
The shofar calls, tells me, "Awake!"
(I have to buy honey, get ready to bake)

Elul. I've lots of resolutions to make
(Aha, and what about that honey cake?)
I should do more "give," not so much "take"
(Be sure it's real honey, not the fake)

Perhaps more shiurim to elevate my mind
(Will all that fish go into the pot?)
To my family be more loving and kind
(And how will I keep the tzimmes hot?)

On the Heavenly scales, what side will come down?
(Do they all need something new to wear?)
Will my deeds cause a smile or chalilah a frown?
(How could they all grow so much in one year?)

I must add more fervor to my prayer
(Will all that I've made fit into the freezer?)
Of shemiras haloshon take more care
(I think I'm having a panic seizure)

As I stand in shul on Rosh Hashonoh
(Boruch Hashem, all is finished at long last)
I pray my efforts were in the King's honor
So in awe and fear I may hear the shofar's blast
