Meeting of Mifal HaShas Presidential Council

In a holy call to increase Torah study, particularly during this difficult period as the blade of harsh decrees cuts into both ruchniyus and gashmiyus in Eretz Yisroel, at the annual meeting of the World Mifal HaShas nesius, gedolei Torah said, "Increasing the light of Torah more and more is the only guaranteed defense against the trials of our times and this is our task in practice in order to defend all of the residents of this land."

Participants at the gathering included HaRav Nissim Karelitz, gavad of Ramat Aharon in Bnei Brak and rosh kollel of Kollel Chazon Ish; HaRav Gershon Edelstein, one of the roshei yeshiva of Yeshivas Ponovezh; the Admor of Tzanz; HaRav Menachem Zeev Berlin, rosh yeshiva of Rabbenu Chaim Ozer; HaRav Shaul Alter, rosh yeshiva of Yeshivas Sfas Emes; HaRav Menachem Ernster, rosh yeshiva of Yeshivas Vishnitz; HaRav Yitzchok Bretler, rosh yeshiva of Yeshivas Itri; HaRav Avrohom Ganichovsky, one of the roshei yeshiva of Yeshivas Tchebin; HaRav Yisroel Grossman, rosh yeshiva of Yeshivas Pinsk-Karlin; HaRav Nosson Gestetner, gavad of Kiryas Agudas Yisroel in Bnei Brak and rosh yeshiva of Yeshivas Ponim Me'iros; HaRav Tzvi Drabkin, rosh yeshiva of Yeshivas Grodna-Be'er Yaakov; HaRav Michel Zilber, rosh yeshiva of Yeshivas Zevihl, HaRav Yitzchok Zilberstein, rov of Ramat Elchonon in Bnei Brak; HaRav Boruch Dov Povarsky, one of the roshei yeshiva of Yeshivas Ponovezh; HaRav Chaim Feinstein, rosh yeshiva of Yeshivas Beis Yehuda; HaRav Menashe Klein, gavad of Ungvar; HaRav Shmuel Rosengarten, rosh yeshiva of Yeshivas Belz; HaRav Tzvi Rotberg, rosh yeshiva of Yeshivas Beis Meir; HaRav Moshe Yehuda Schlesinger, rosh yeshiva of Yeshivas Kol Torah; and HaRav Eliyohu Schmerler, rosh yeshiva of Yeshivas Tzanz.

At the end of a lively hour of in-depth discussions of the various study programs they reached the following decisions:

Participants in the 30 Daf Per Month track would complete maseches Kesuvos in the coming year and continue with Nedorim, Megilloh, Nozir and Sotoh. Participants in the 20 Daf Per Month track would study Bovo Kammo and Bovo Metzia. In the Horo'oh — Shas and Poskim program, participants in the Even HaEzer track would continue with the halochos of gittin, mi'un, yibum and chalitzoh and would continue Even HaEzer at the end of the year, im yirtzeh Hashem, while participants in the Orach Chaim track would study the halochos of yom tov, including maseches Beitzoh with the Rosh and the halochos of Chol Hamoed.
