High Court Rules Gaza Pullout is Legal

Last Thursday the Israeli High Court reiterated its position that Israel does not have an inherent right to ownership of the West Bank and Gaza Strip nor has it annexed the land. Rather it is temporarily holding it in belligerent occupation by right of international law. Therefore, the full extent of Israeli law and rights does not apply in those areas.

More than 20 percent of Israeli Books Published are Religious

Over 8,000 new Israeli book titles were published in 2004, according to the Jewish National and University Library (JNUL) of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem which is supposed to be sent copies of every new book published. More than 1,600 of these were religious titles. According to Business Data Israel, 35 million books are sold in Israel annually. Hebrew Book Week is June 15-25.

Dollar Rises 12 Agorot in Three Months

Merely 15 percent of all those working in the Israeli agriculture industry are Jewish according to a survey conducted by Oketz Maarachot. The survey included 5,000 workers at 276 companies in 2004 and 216 companies in 2005.

While the State of Israel moved numerous roads because of problems with Jewish gravesites the Transportation Ministry and the Trans-Israel Highway Company are refusing to alter the route of Highway 6 despite damage to burial caves forbidden by the leading poskim, said MK Rabbi Moshe Gafni during a meeting of the Knesset Religious Lobby.

Modi'in Illit Selected as "Employment Advancement Town"

Modi'in Illit has been granted the status of an Employment Advancement Town in a special Ministry of Industry, Trade and Employment program to promote employment through the local authorities. Organizers say Modi'in Illit meets the criteria due to the heavy involvement by Council Head Rabbi Yaakov Guterman in finding and creating sources of employment in the city.

MK Gafni Attacks Likud for Delays in Funding for Torah- Based Culture Organizations

MK Rabbi Moshe Gafni demanded, lashing out at the Likud during a Knesset Finance Committee meeting over the prolonged delay in funding transfers for Torah-based culture organizations for the year 2005 by the Education Ministry, which is headed by Minister Livnat of the Likud Party.

Franklin Formally Charged with Passing Secret Data to AIPAC

Pentagon analyst Larry Franklin, who is not Jewish, has been indicted on charges of leaking classified military information to employees of AIPAC, according to court papers made public Monday. Through his attorney, Franklin denied all the charges.

Route to Roots Campaign

Israel has suggested constructing a special rail line linking the Gaza Strip and West Bank to allow Palestinians in the two areas easy. The tracks would run from the Erez checkpoint to the Tarqumiya crossing near Hebron. The idea was approved by Prime Minister Ariel Sharon before it was presented to the PA.
