300,000 Visitors at Rashbi's Grave in Meron

by Yated Ne'eman Staff

Thousands poured in to Meron on the day of Lag B'Omer to celebrate the hiluloh of R' Shimon Bar Yochai. According to police estimates over 300,000 visitors arrived. Heavy congestion was reported on the roads leading to Meron before and during Lag B'Omer, even though it came out on Friday this year. Hundreds of buses and thousands of private vehicles arrived at the site and major traffic snarls developed on the morning of Lag B'Omer when two buses broke down.

Magen David Adom reported dozens of people had to be treated, including a few who had to be transported to Ziv Hospital in Tzfas. One visitor suffered serious burns and five others suffered light burns. Two others were injured by sharp objects and three suffered broken bones due to falls. Three celebrants had to be hospitalized after complaining of chest pains and one suffered a stroke.
