HaRav Yitzchok Zilber zt"l
by Yated Ne'eman Staff

HaRav Yitzchok Zilber zt"l was niftar on 8 Av at the age of 87. The levaya left from the Ezras Torah shul in Sanhedria Murchevet at 11 p.m. on the night of Tisha B'Av. Many thousands attended.

Since his arrival in Eretz Yisroel some 32 years ago, HaRav Zilber worked to bring Russian Jews closer to Torah and mitzvos. For years he attended almost every simchah in Sanhedria Murchevet and fascinated the guests with stories of mesiras nefesh under Communism that displayed a heroism that is unlike anything that we normally encounter in modern life.

About five years ago when he was sick, he founded Toldos Yeshurun to work with Russians in Eretz Yisroel, which has since grown to encompass hundreds of classes and other activities.

HaRav Shmuel Auerbach, HaRav Chaim Sarna, HaRav Aryeh Finkel, HaRav Yitzchok Ezrachi and HaRav Bentzion Zilber spoke at the levaya that left for Har Hamenuchos after 1 a.m.

We plan to discuss his life and achievements at much greater length in subsequent issues.
