Remedia Soy Infant Formula Scandal
by M Plaut and Yated Ne'eman Staff

On Tuesday afternoon at a press conference in Berlin, Humana, manufacturer of the soy-based infant formula distributed in Israel by Remedia, admitted that the product it sent to Israel had only a tenth of the B1 that it was claimed to have, and accepted full responsibility. The company stressed that this was a one-time mistake, and promised to cooperate fully with Israeli authorities.

Israeli Cabinet Narrowly Approves Prisoner Swap
by Yated Ne'eman Staff

Israel hopes to complete the prisoner swap the cabinet narrowly passed on Sunday by the end of the week. By the slimmest of margins Israel's Cabinet approved the prisoner- swap deal with Hizbullah. But Israel said it would not free any prisoners "with blood on their hands" and Hizbullah still insists on including Samir Kuntar, who murdered three members of one family and an Israeli policeman in 1979.

Degel HaTorah Holds Post-Election Conference
by G. Lazer, B. Kahn and Y. Ariel

Degel HaTorah's post-election kenes held at the Ganei HaZayit events halls in Bnei Brak last week was attended by rabbonim, members of the party's spiritual board including HaRav Nosson Zochovsky, party heads, dozens of Degel HaTorah representatives elected to serve on local councils across the country and members of Degel HaTorah's national secretariat.

Practical Questions and Answers on the Illness

Hatzoloh of Jerusalem, in cooperation with Rabbi Benny Fisher, director-general of Magen LeCholeh, has issued an information sheet containing common questions and authoritative answers by Professor David Barnesky, Director of Pediatric Medicine at Hadassah Hospital and an expert on gastrointestinal function and nutrition in children.

Remedia Non-Dairy Formula Abroad May Also be Unsuitable
by Yated Ne'eman Staff

Following the panic over Remedia infant formula, Hatzoloh of Jerusalem consulted leading doctors and professors at the Health Ministry and Hadassah Hospital, with the assistance of medical consultant Rabbi Binyomin Fisher of Magen LeCholeh. The information gathered has been transmitted to the appropriate figures in the chareidi sector in Eretz Yisroel and abroad. The Remedia company claimed that it does not export the product at all.

Using Soy-Based Formula for No Good Reason
by Yated Ne'eman Staff

A large percentage of parents who give their babies soy-based formula do not base their choice on any medical or health reasons, while pediatric nutrition and gastrointestinal experts have unilaterally determined they are not giving their children the best food available.

OPINION & COMMENT

Do Not Ignore Reality

Last weekend, a prominent member of Fatah's military wing in Shechem was killed by the IDF. His surviving friends went around demanding that the stores in the area close down during the funeral. One owner of a butcher store refused to close, and he was shot dead on the spot.
