Keep Smiling

Short inspirational pieces by Avrohom Tzvi Schwartz, Kiryat Sefer, author of A Handful of Light, Hearts on Fire and other works on Mussar and Hashkofa

Mindset

1) Can you get Hashem to change His mind? Is there not an idea that Hashem never changes His mind?

2) Does Hashem not decide before your birth whether you will be rich or poor?

*

1) Hashem does not change His mind. Only our choices determine our wellbeing, our success and happiness. However, since Hashem looks into the future and sees how we choose, He determines our futures accordingly. He may make something happen today, based on a decision or a choice that we will make months or years into the future. Accordingly, our attitude today can affect even our past!

2) Before we are born, the heavens rule whether we will be rich or poor. But the blessing within this wealth -- our ability to enjoy it or not enjoy it -- changes according to our attitudes and mindset -- our awe and respect for Hashem, our joy and love of life.

Thus, a rich person may end up with little pleasure from his wealth, while a pauper may live a full, satisfying life!

"There is a person that Hashem grants wealth, property and importance -- no pleasure is beyond him. Yet Hashem restrains him from enjoying it" (Koheles 6:2).
