Al-Qaida Claims Kenya Attacks
by Yated Ne'eman Staff

Israeli, Kenyan, and American investigators' -- and almost everyone else -- suspicion that al-Qaida was responsible for last week's attacks in Mombasa, Kenya seemed borne out when al-Qaida, in a statement published on an Islamist Web site, took responsibility.

Al-Qaida: `We're waging war against U.S. because of Israel'
by Yated Neeman Staff

A statement titled "Letter to the American People," allegedly written by Osama bin Laden and disseminated over the Internet in Arabic a few days before last week's double attack in Mombasa, says that Israel's very existence is the main reason why Bin Laden's al-Qaida organization has declared war on the United States. This is the first time that Israel has figured prominently in al-Qaida's rhetoric and seems to indicate a shift in strategy.

Terror Groups Competing -- Rachmono Litzlan
by Mordecai Plaut

Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz said that the various terror groups, including Hamas, Islamic Jihad, and the Fatah-Tanzim, are now competing to carry out the biggest attack. Mofaz said that the current wave of terror within Israel is liable to "get worse in the next month." He also said that the country should also brace for a wave of global terror he predicted would also worsen following the double attack in Mombassa.

Israel Second in Social Gap
by Yated Ne'eman Staff

Israel is now rated second in the Western world, after the United States, in terms of social gaps in income, property, capital, education and spending.

Thousands in America Seek Hisorerus From Gedolei Yisroel
by Yated Ne'eman Staff

A beyond-capacity crowd remained still, pensive and absorbed in the thoughts its members heard for three hours on Thursday 23 Kislev-28 November. The hall is designed to hold approximately 2000 people; it was filled, with hundreds of others seated or standing in a large lobby area, which had been outfitted with screens on which the proceedings were projected. They were broadcast as well on a Jewish radio station, and electronically transmitted to over a dozen cities across the country.

Shuvu Students Connect to Yiddishkeit Through Project Shorashim
by Moshe Schapiro

Some of the schools that nurture descendants of the Vilna Gaon and relatives of Rav Eliezer Menachem Mann Shach, among others, are not tucked away in the chareidi neighborhoods in Meah Shearim or Geula as one might expect. Some of their students are not even aware of the importance of their lineage.

OPINION & COMMENT

Challenges of the Modern World: "They Got Their Hands on our Wealth"

Reading the business pages of the secular press lately can be quite depressing. Japan is in an economic slump that has lasted more than a decade and cannot shake itself out of it. The worldwide telecommunications industry is in a huge slide downhill: the second largest communications company in the US, Worldcomm, is bankrupt. Lucent, a huge company that was steady as a rock for three generations has gone from more than 150,000 employees just two years ago to a planned 35,000 within the next three months -- and it is typical of many.

Could you Please Reframe That?
by KSR

To his teacher he is a wild nuisance. To me, he is a vivacious joy.

To her brother she is a whiny pest. To me, she is an expressive orator.

To me, it is a deafening racket. To my children, it is a melodious tune.
