Thirty Percent Not Inducted or Dismissed During Military
Service

Over 30 percent of young people slated for service in the
armed forces are not inducted into the IDF or are dismissed
during the course of their service, according to a survey IDF
personnel division head, General Gil Regev, submitted to the
Knesset's Foreign Affairs and Security Committee's sub-
committee on IDF manpower on Monday.
The figures show 9.5 percent are not inducted on grounds of
"Toraso umnuso," whereas over two-thirds of the total
are not inducted for various other reasons. Among these, 3.7
percent are not inducted due to mental or emotional problems
and another 7.8 percent are dismissed during the course of
military service for this reason; 2.6 percent do not meet the
minimal induction requirements and another 1.4 percent is
rejected because of a criminal record. An additional 9
percent do not complete military service for reasons not
related to mental health.
