Roads Forbidden to Cohanim
by Y. Ariel

In light of the heavy traffic to Meron on Lag B'Omer and to the Ramchal's grave in Tiberius on the 26th of Iyar, the Association for the Prevention of Grave Desecration is warning the public to avoid certain roads in the city forbidden to Cohanim due to tumas meis from graves hidden below.

The roads forbidden to Cohanim are the sloped segment of Rechov Alchadif from the corner of Rechov Yehuda HaLevi and below at the corner of Rechov HaYarden; Rechov HaBanim (the route taken when arriving from the direction of the Jordan River Valley) after the turn to Rechov HaGalil as far as Derech Gedud Barak (Hwy. 40 toward Tzfas and Meron); and side streets including Tzipori, Abualafia, HaTanaim, R' Yochanan Ben Zakai, Eilat, Kikar HaAtzmaut, the post office building -- and of course the entire area of the Rambam's grave.

In all of these places there is no distinction between driving in private vehicles, riding in buses or walking on foot. The Association for the Prevention of Grave Desecration says there is no way for Cohanim to travel to Meron via the Jordan River Valley except by bypassing the problematic areas, and therefore details on the exact locations of the graves should be clarified in advance. There is a way to bypass the graves on foot.
