HaRav Mordechai Yehuda Friedman, Hy"d
by Betzalel Kahn

HaRav Mordechai Yehuda Friedman, Hy"d, a quiet, modest avreich and one of the important ameilei Torah of the Ger chassidim in Beit Shemesh was murdered in the homicide bombing attack at the Meron Junction.

The niftar was born on 15 Kislev, 5738. His father is HaRav Dovid Friedman, one of the prominent members of the Ger community in Yerushalayim.

HaRav Mordechai Yehuda Hy"d was educated in the Ger institutions in Yerushalayim where he developed into a capable talmid chochom who distanced himself from all the havlei olom.

He was beloved by all who knew him. He was careful to use all his time to grow spiritually. Just last Thursday he told a friend how he felt that he had managed to continue his growth even during the bein hazmanim particularly in halachah. He was dedicated to the regular learning in his kollel but also maintained personal sedorim in halachah.

His family suffered another tragedy 14 years ago, when his brother drowned along with three other friends while hiking in the summer.

Last Shabbos he spent in Tzfas, and Sunday morning he went with two friends to daven at Meron. They were on their way back. Rav Friedman managed to get onto the crowded bus while his two friends were left further behind.

He is survived by his wife, the daughter of Rav Yosef Gersh of Bnei Brak, and one son, aged three.

He was buried on Sunday in Yerushalayim.
