Thousands of Teachers Eligible for Refunds
by N. Katzin

Thousands of teachers and other educators are eligible to receive refunds from Bituach Leumi for overpayments that resulted from misinformation regarding the National Insurance Law.

According to the findings of a special Yated Ne'eman investigation, Bituach Leumi deducted excessive payments from salaries of workers on maternity leave at most chareidi educational institutions (and almost certainly in the general education system as well).

Based on sample checks the overpayments were deducted for years at Chinuch Atzmai, the City of Bnei Brak, the Eitz HaDaas and Or Hasheim institutions; the network of kindergartens and nursery schools run by Neshei Agudat Yisroel; seminaries and most other chareidi educational institutions.

Eligible workers who would like to file for a refund should send written confirmation from their place of employment in order to receive a voucher for reduced payment. Temporary workers should send a request along with copies of their salary slips from the relevant period of employment.
