Modi'in Will Receive the Status of a City
by Betzalel Kahn

This past Tuesday (29 Tishrei), Minister of Interior Affairs Eli Yishai adopted the recommendations of the committee for the granting of the status of a city to Modi'in. Yishai signed the orders which canceled the local council of Modi'in and declared the place a city.

The recommendations of the committee for the changing of the status of Modi'in were based on a number of factors: 1) The size of its population, which numbers 35,000 residents. 2) Its development rate. 3) The fact that its services meet the needs of its residents. 4) The fact that the residents, including those who are dissatisfied with the council and its functioning, have asked that the Modi'in be accorded the status of a city. 5) The fact that Modi'in's economy is balanced.
