Rav Binyomin HaKohen Bloom z"l

Last Thursday night, Rav Binyamin HaKohen Bloom, z"l, one of the prominent members of the chareidi community in the United States, was niftar in New York.

Rav Bloom lived in the United States for many years, where he devoted himself to Torah study and was known as an outstanding talmid chochom. He was a very devoted askan who engaged extended tzedokoh and chesed, much of it removed from the public view.

He moved to Eretz Yisroel more than twenty years ago and lived in the Bayit Vegan, where he was one of the founders of the Gra shul. He personally collected money to build the shul and engaged in many chesed activities in his area. Two years ago he became weak and moved back to the U.S. to live near his sons.

He was niftar on erev Shabbos kodesh parshas Bamidbar, and his aron was brought to Eretz Yisroel on Sunday, rosh chodesh Sivan on El Al flight 008. His levaya proceeded from the Shamgar funeral home to toward Har Hamenuchos.

His son, Rabbi Shmuel Bloom, is the executive vice president of the American Agudas Yisroel.
