Rabbi David Orlofsky Speaks To Shelanu Women On Sunday, July 11

Rabbi Dovid Orlofsky, widely acclaimed public speaker and teacher at Yeshivas Ohr Somayach, will speak at the upcoming SHELANU meeting of chizuk for mothers, therapists, teachers and friends of special children on Sunday, July 11, 27 Tammuz. His topic, "How Much Do You Want for Your Kid?" will be presented at the Israel Center, 10 Straus St., Jerusalem. On the program is "Coffee, cake and... time to talk" at 8 p.m., guest speaker at 8:30 p.m. sharp. Admission is 10 N.S.; women only.

SHELANU, `our children,' was founded four years ago by Jerusalem mother Mrs. Linda Dayan and special education counselor Mrs. Lieba Gottlieb. "When I gave birth to my daughter who is a special child, I needed chizuk," explains Mrs. Dayan. "I found plenty of secular literature and support groups on the scene, but no true Torah outlook. I developed this program of lectures and social contacts in order to provide support for other mothers in the same situation."

SHELANU's following has grown through the years to the point where 200 mothers, grandmothers, friends and therapists of special children from all over Jerusalem, as well as Kiryat Sefer, Bnei Brak and Tzefas have asked to be on its mailing list. Each meeting attracts more mothers who look as if they've never before spoken to other mothers in the same situation.

"The parent of a special child is always looking for help to focus on the bright spots of her child's development and ways to enjoy that child," comments Mrs. Gottlieb. "SHELANU gives mothers a three point benefit: the Torah perspective, the professional perspective, and the contact and outlook of other mothers who have already attained that measure of comfort and enjoyment in their special children."
